This Privacy Policy applies to the Petba website (www.petba.in), our mobile application, and all services offered under the Petba brand. By using any of these services, you agree to the terms described below. Please read this policy carefully before placing an order or creating an account.

Petba ("we", "our", or "us") is an online pet store operating at www.petba.in, offering pet food, accessories, toys, and related products for cats, dogs, and other pets. Through our mobile application, we additionally facilitate pet rescue, adoption listings, and pet care resources.

We are registered and operate under the laws of India. For any privacy-related queries, you may reach us using the contact details in Section 13 of this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect information necessary to deliver our services, process your orders, and improve your experience. The categories of data we collect are described below.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share your data only in the limited circumstances described below:

  • Delivery partners & couriers — Your name and delivery address are shared with logistics providers solely for the purpose of completing your order.
  • Payment processors — Encrypted payment details are shared with authorised payment gateways (such as Razorpay, PayU, or similar) under strict data processing agreements. We do not retain full card numbers on our servers.
  • Technology service providers — We use third-party services for website hosting, email delivery, analytics, and customer support tools. These processors act under our instructions and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • App adoption/rescue listings — When you post a pet for rescue or adoption on the Petba app, the listing content (photos, pet description, your approximate city) is visible to other app users. Your full name, phone number, and exact address remain private unless you choose to share them.
  • Legal & regulatory requirements — We may disclose your information if required by Indian law, a court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
  • Business transfers — In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on our website in such cases.
Important: No Petba employee or representative will ever ask for your full payment card details, OTP, or account password over phone, email, or chat. Please do not share such information with anyone claiming to be from Petba.

Petba uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors interact with our pages.

Mobile App & Device Permissions

The Petba mobile application may request certain device permissions to enable specific features. Permissions are requested only when needed and only used for the stated purposes.

You may revoke any permission at any time through your device settings. Revoking a permission may limit certain app features but will not affect your ability to place orders.

Section 07

Payment Security

All payment transactions on Petba are processed through PCI-DSS compliant third-party payment gateways. We do not store, process, or transmit full credit/debit card numbers or CVV codes on our own servers.

Our website uses HTTPS (TLS encryption) to protect all data transmitted between your browser or app and our servers. You can verify this by checking for the padlock icon in your browser’s address bar when visiting www.petba.in.

In the event of a data security incident that may compromise your personal information, Petba will notify affected users in accordance with the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 and applicable Indian data protection regulations.
Section 08

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by Indian law.

  • Account data — Retained for the duration of your account plus up to 3 years after account deletion, for legal and audit purposes.
  • Order and transaction records — Retained for a minimum of 7 years in compliance with the Income Tax Act, 1961 and GST regulations.
  • Marketing preferences — Retained until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe.
  • App rescue/adoption listings — Retained while the listing is active. Removed within 30 days of deletion.
  • Support communications — Retained for up to 2 years from the date of resolution.
  • Cookies and analytics data — Typically up to 26 months, per our analytics provider’s settings.

Your Rights & Choices

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) and other applicable Indian regulations, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  1. Right to Access — You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time.
  2. Right to Correction — You may request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
  3. Right to Erasure — You may request deletion of your personal data, subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records.
  4. Right to Withdraw Consent — Where we rely on your consent to process data (e.g. marketing emails), you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
  5. Right to Data Portability — You may request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format, where technically feasible.
  6. Right to Grievance Redressal — You have the right to raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (see Section 13) or with the Data Protection Board of India once operational.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the details provided in Section 13. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request.

Marketing Opt-Out

You can unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link in any marketing email, or by managing your notification settings within the Petba app or account dashboard. Transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping alerts) cannot be disabled as they are essential to your service.

Section 10

Children’s Privacy

Petba’s website and mobile application are not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe that a child under 18 has provided us with personal data without appropriate parental consent, please contact us immediately at the details in Section 13 and we will take prompt steps to delete such information.

Section 11

Third-Party Links & Services

Our website and app may contain links to third-party websites, brand pages, or social media platforms. Clicking these links will take you away from Petba’s platform, and this Privacy Policy will no longer apply. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any third-party sites.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external websites you visit. Petba is not liable for any data collection, use, or processing carried out by these third parties.

Section 12

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, business practices, or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page
  • Display a prominent notice on our website or app for at least 14 days
  • Send an email notification to registered account holders where the change is significant

Your continued use of Petba’s website or app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any updates, please discontinue use and contact us to close your account.
